Getting stuck with the C team because all the good players are out of town.
Work right now.
I prefer coming in and everybody knows exactly what they need to do to get show ready, nobody has any questions. They just do it.
Then I get the trainees who just don’t know as much, and ugh.
So, a student group on campus cancelled a gig because of a recent snow storm. They rescheduled for the next night, but tech services “wasn’t able” (not sure we really tried) to provide a technician to cover the event on the short notice. Had a long day of us covering other gigs (junior day: financial aid sessions, a cappella set ups etc.) so that night instead of setting up the event and covering it, my boss has the sound equipment removed from the storage closet in the room so that even if the students wanted to and could get into the locked closet they wouldn’t be able to use or set up the sound system.
AND the room, a gallery, has an in house system that is super self explanatory and fairly easy to use, and would be sufficient for their needs. But they also pulled the cables to the mains out, sabotaging the system.
So, at an educational institution, was that the right thing to do?? To actively SABOTAGE a student lead program instead of doing what we could to work the situation out?
Because to me it seemed hella childish to TOTALLY sabotage a student groups event bc they changed the date last minute.
Just the other week I worked a last minute, like i got a call 2 hours before, a lecture in the same damn space and we simply charged them a late notice fee, like we always do, because it happens all the time!
So why for the Krimson and Kreme Ball hosted by a black sorority and fraternity did The Adults who claim up and down to be soooo diverse and open minded, why did they have to do everything in their power to sabotage their event?? To make a statement or an example??
Well they must not know too many niggas cus u can believe that a lil sound issue ain’t stop the kappas and deltas from their ball. Believe that!
So disappointed in what I usually call my tech family. Smh.
"We need to do highsides and gobos on the pipe ends" says the ME from the genie.
Cool. *he finishes on 2Lx SR and says
“Moving to stage other..”
“Bro you don’t want move to the 1st E and hit that one first, instead of pushing this thing across the stage AND BACK??” I exclaim, rushing to the defense of the guy pushing the genie.
"Oh, I guess that makes sense too."
Yeah. I guess that does.
Remember: work smarter not harder people.
